Giving Tuesday was established in 2012 as a national day of generosity, held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. While Galloway Ridge believes in giving back year-round, this day offers a meaningful opportunity to support organizations at a time when needs are often greatest.
The Salvation Army echoes this importance: “While donations are important year-round, Giving Tuesday comes at a critical time. The holidays are when needs often spike—more families seek help with food, shelter, heating bills, and holiday support.”
One program supported through Giving Tuesday is the Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope initiative. This program provides individualized, strength-based support to families with children who are working to break cycles of crisis and vulnerability. By addressing the root causes of poverty, Pathway of Hope builds upon The Salvation Army’s long history of compassionate service.
Currently, 30 families and individuals are being mentored through the Siler City Pathway of Hope program. Participants receive coaching in financial stability, goal-setting for education, and improving housing situations. Demand remains high, with a waitlist consistently at least 10 families deep. Looking ahead to 2026, the Siler City Salvation Army has set a goal to support 60 or more cases by adding a second Case Manager.
This Giving Tuesday, Galloway Ridge residents raised $2,995 in support of this program. Their generosity will help strengthen services for families currently enrolled and allow those on the waitlist to receive support as well.
On behalf of Galloway Ridge residents, Bob Holton, presents the gift to Rebecca Sommer-Peterson, Salvation Army Service Center Director.
Those interested in supporting this work can donate directly to the Chatham County Salvation Army, helping ensure these vital services continue to reach families in our local community.
