Age 50 and Over Register for the Chatham County Senior Games and Silver Arts

North Carolina Senior Games, Inc. has announced that Chatham County Senior Games has been sanctioned as an official qualifying site for State Finals for 2014. Chatham County Senior Games, coordinated through the Chatham County Council on Aging, will be held in various locations throughout the county April 29 thru May 9, 2014. Event sites include Pittsboro Senior Center, Pittsboro Public Courts, Galloway Ridge at Fearrington, Northwood High School, Siler City Country Club, Carolina Preserve, and Duke Center for Living at Fearrington.

The Senior Games wellness and prevention program seeks to keep the body, mind, and spirit fit while also fostering enjoyment with friends, family, spectators, and volunteers. Seniors age 50 years and better are eligible to participate.

Galloway Ridge has historically been involved in the Chatham County Senior Games with the swimming event. “This year our involvement is a great deal larger”, says Executive Director Heather Rusnak. “We have added the “Community Training Center” to our venue for the senior games we are hosting such as football and softball throws, swimming and billiards games. The “Community Training Center” is open to the public on specific days for training for these games. In 2015 we anticipate adding additional games to our location for Chatham County.”

Sporting events will include: basketball shoot, billiards, bocce, corn hole, croquet, cycling, football throw, one-mile fun walk, golf, bowling, horseshoes, softball throw, swimming, tennis, track and field events.

Silver arts cover four categories: Heritage arts which include basket weaving, china painting, crocheting, rugs, jewelry, knitting, needlework, pottery, quilting, stained glass, tatting & needle lace, decorative painting, weaving, woodcarving, woodturning and woodworking. Literary Arts including essays, life experiences, poems and short stories. Performing Arts with comedy/drama, dance, line dance, instrumental, vocal and visual arts via acrylics, drawing, mixed media, oils, pastels, photography, sculpture, and watercolor.
